=] I'm glad you like my things! You are very talented yourself!

I was just curious, where are you going to school? I'm going to college soon too and I'm just interested in where everyone is going

i actually go to a local community college, embarrassingly! it took a long time to convince myself to take this route. you are really talented and i can tell you could have a great art career ahead of you, so this may not necessarily be the choice you'd for your life, but i've been in your shoes before and it was really really difficult knowing what to choose for myself, so maybe giving you a perspective from a "normal art student" will help in whatever steps you choose for yourself:

i can't afford to pay for school and i didn't want to be in massive debt. art schools in particular tend to be very expensive, and even with scholarships i know i would owe something big and i didn't want that for myself. i also was unsure if art was even the career i truly wanted for myself so i didn't want to get myself into something i'd regret later. i chose to go to community college because i'm actually profiting on financial aid, i can get my basic classes done for MUCH cheaper and once i have an associates in two years i'll be secure enough to know what i want to pursue and what school i want to go to from there.

but! that is what has worked out for my life, and if you have the money and/or dedication, i'm sure you could get yourself into whatever you wanted to do. be sure to check out the art programs that your local universities offer, because sometimes they end up being just as great as an art institute, without all the debt. there are lots of great art schools all over the country as well, like LCAD, Savannah and Pratt. be sure to go online and read reviews by the students; they have lots of things to say about them.

sorry for the super long reply (i'm sure you weren't expecting this), but i've been in your shoes and every bit of info i could get from other artists greatly influenced my own choices, and i'd like to give other artists the same chance. if you love art and can deal with it's pros and cons, follow your dream and go for it!

I don't think it's embarassing that you go to a community college. Wherever place you decide to go is a big decision to make, and I think it's brave that you're able to take such a step.

I know that whatever school I end up going to, financial aid is a really plays a really big part in my decision. Because like you, I don't want to be in alot of debt either, and my family can't really afford to pay for art school. I don't even know if my family would be able to pay for a state school. I mean, college is really expensive.

I think I'm dedicated enough to be an artist, but I don't know. I do know I don't want to be anything else though and that I really want to go to an art school. I don't want to end up in a state school, but I'm going to have to if I dont get enough money to go to an art school.

Well, I already know my top school is MICA, and 4 of my seniors are there now, one of them I know got 60 thousand, and pays like 17-18 thousand a year, I don't really know if that would be enough for me, or if I'd get that much, but she told me that she thought there was a good chance I'd get more than her. I mean, here's to hoping.

No I really appreciate the reply and that you put the time and effort to write this. I actually wasn't expecting a long reply, but that was mostly because I didn't expect that you would care (not that I think poorly of your personality, I just assumed people wouldn't)

Thanks again for your time =]

aw no problem! also, always keep in mind that a great portfolio is key, not so much outstanding academic grades like a state school would require you to have. if you really want to go to an art school, start putting together your portfolio and applying for scholarships right right now! if your friends have gotten that much money in scholarships, you're definitely a candidate too.

aaa i really wish americans weren't forced to pay such ridiculously high tuitions. it's as if our government doesn't want us people to pursue a higher education (without forever being in debt to somebody else). :( i know people in european countries that are only paying like $400 a semester for a state school education... it's really unfortunate for us that money can stifle our dreams :(
:iconoterwing:
I've got alot of work to send, but I'm trying to work on some personal work too. And I'm definitely going to get my portfolio in in time for competitive scholarships, but for actual exterior scholarships, I haven't really been looking at that. Well, scholastics, and I didn't make the cut for Young Arts.

=\ for real. everyone deserves a good education, but it's like you cant really get one unless you've got the money
